HOW WE STARTED
FIRST WORDS
A T O M I C is an abbreviation of Autonomous Path-Mapping Car which is controlled by voice commands given via computer. This car maps its path while moving and this mapped path is shown on computer screen via RF-Communication between computer and car.The idea behind A T O M I C is inspired from the Airport Robot named Spencer. The project Spencer was initiated by Dutch airline KLM, as a way of reducing the costs incurred when passengers miss their flights due to getting lost. Our project A T O M I C is based on Spencer's idea with a firm believe in being open-source. A T O M I C with modifications can be used in several public places as a guide robot.
IDEA, INSPIRATION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
We were planning to make a robotic project. Our research about the idea of robot revealed that there are multiple robotic works such as line following robot, stair climbing robot, ultrasonic sensor robot, voice controlled robot, autonomous robots and path mapping devices. Our approach is to design a robot that has the combined features of these robots. We were also inspired by the idea of “Spencer robot” which is a human speech sensor robot placed in the airport to guide the passengers through the way.
So, we started to work on an autonomous path mapping voice controlled robotic car. As its name suggests, it is controlled by a human speech. Moreover, it maps the path on which it travels and comes back to its initial position. These auxiliary features make this robot a special one and it will be a great inspiration in the field of robotics.
